When we speak with our customers, it is critically important to get a complete understanding of what the customer needs. Although labels seem simple enough, there are a number of factors that will determine what they need. We will cover the composition of labels in the next lesson.
Visualization of what the customer needs labels for is critical.
Get the customer to describe their end product to you. Before you provide a solution you need to be able to completely picture how labels from Pacific Barcode will look on the customer’s product along with a pretty good understanding of what the product is.
In addition to size and quantity of labels needed along with what the label artwork looks like, you’ll want to know the following:
- What is the product?
- How is it manufactured, stored, displayed, etc.?
Depending on what the item is, there may be environmental concerns for the label. Constant direct sunlight, moisture, dramatic temperatures, contents of product all determine the type(s) of labels required. - What does the packaging look like?
- Where does the label go on the packaging?
- How will they affix the label to the packaging?
You do not want to barrage the customer with one question after the other. You can ask the customer to tell you about their product. Within their answer may be the answers to some of the questions above.
Now, ask another question to fill in the blanks with what you need to know in order to visualize their product(s) and how labels integrate into their manufacturing. If you still can’t picture it, keep asking questions.
